Willams Route 66 - Tulsa Marathon

Williams Route 66 - Tulsa Marathon

When I signed up for this marathon, I thought that it would be hard for me because I would be used to running in the cold and this would be warm.  Boy, was I wrong!  It was unseasonably cold for this race.  I had to make a Target run the night before to get some long sleeve, gloves and a headband and also bought some pants at the expo.  This was one of the coldest marathons I have ever run.  I didn't shed a single layer the whole way, and I don't think that I actually ever go warm.

The race itself was pretty fun.  I didn't really have anything planned for time, I just knew I was going to do the Center of the Universe detour, which adds on about .3 miles and you get a cool coin along with your medal. The high school around mile 3 had forgotten to turn sprinklers off or something along those lines so the road was very icey there.  This course did seem a little hillier than I had first thought it would be.

I stopped and had a jello shot around mile 8 with a couple other Maniacs and had a beer at the Center of the Universe Detour around mile 25.5.  The beer was VERY cold so tasted pretty yummy.

Marathon Maniacs and Half Fanatics! Great turnout from the groups, I am in the way back on the left.

The bling!  Marathon Maniacs got special medals at the finish.  The coin is what you get for taking the detour

I also ran a 10k the week before the Tulsa Marathon and the Thursday after the marathon.

Unleash the She 10k

The 10k before was the Unleash the She 10k, put on by Athleta, replacing the Diva Dash that I participated in last year.  This year it took place at the Blaine National Sports Complex, just down the street from my house.  I had been out the night before at the 90s, I was definitely not in good running condition for this race.  Around mile 3 I had to ditch my race belt because just the pressure on my tummy made me want to throw up.  I think for my condition, I ran a pretty darn spectacular race!

Fast Before the Feast 10k

The 10k that I did the Thursday after was called Fast Before the Feast, it took place in White Bear Lake, MN.  I ran this with the guy I was dating.  It was actually quite nice.  A little cold.  It was an out and back course that ran mostly on streets.  I took this nice and easy and ran a nice enjoyable run.
