First Trimester Update

Today starts the second trimester.  Based on everything I've heard and read, that means things will start to look up.  It has been a rough few months.

We found out we were pregnant the morning of a racquetball tournament.  We were getting ready to had to Panera when I randomly decided to take a test.  The little pink line was SO faint, but I excitedly asked J if he saw the second pink line.  We went from believing we were going to have a challenging time getting pregnant and might have to start drugs to trying to grasp the possibility that we were actually pregnant.  I went in and got a blood test that Monday and it came back that we were definitely pregnant.  Trying to not scream it to everyone was SO HARD.  We got on the schedule for a dating ultrasound in early February to determine how far along we were.

The first week I knew I was pregnant, I had a severe cold and J was out of town for work.  That finally went away and then the nausea and extreme bloating started.  I would be generally okay in the mornings, but by mid to late afternoon, my tummy would be so bloated that I would look like I was 5 months pregnant.

We waited until after the dating ultrasound to tell our parents, it was the most fun thing! We sent an email with a "coupon" to my parents and got to have nacho night at J's parents to tell them.

I tried to keep working out, but was so exhausted and bloated and the weather was just rough, I didn't get too many miles in.  C got me to try out Orange Theory Fitness, and I LOVED it, so I joined that and went for a couple weeks before we went on our Napa and Colorado vacation.

Napa was great, we went to the most beautiful wedding.  Such poor timing to not be able to have wine in Napa.  We ended up ducking out a little early from the wedding because we were tired and I was not feeling well at all. We flew out to Colorado the next day, getting stuck in Denver due to an avalanche shutting down the road.  We made it to Beaver Creek, and I spent the first day there sleeping and reading all day and not feeling the best.  The next day was awesome, we went to the hot springs and I survived a 90 minute yoga class.  The elevation in Colorado really kicks your butt. At breakfast on one of the mornings in Colorado, we got the results from our non-invasive prenatal testing.  We found out that the baby had no detected chromosomal abnormalities and even got to find out the sex.  We did a mini gender reveal in the hotel that night to tell J's family, the grocery story bakery across the street filled a cupcake with colored icing for us, they were great!  We ended up getting stuck in Colorado an extra day due to the avalanches closing down the road to Denver.

After getting back from Colorado, I was feeling pretty good.  But the following week, we ended up in the ER Sunday night.  We experienced a lot of bleeding and some cramping.  They were able to find the baby on the ultrasound and everything looked okay, so I had a follow up the next morning with  my doctor.  I had a second gestational sac that didn't develop, so they think I finally miscarried that sac and that was what caused all of the bleeding.  They also saw a subchorionic hemorrhage.  They told me to limit my activity for a few days to let things heal.  That week I really struggled to keep food down and ended up in the ER the next weekend again with more bleeding.  They found additional subchorionic hemorrhaging and I was put on limited activity again, this time for extended period of time.  At our follow up with Dr. E, she recommended coming in weekly/bi-weekly for a while to monitor.   The activity restriction has been rough with the weather starting to look nice.  Luckily, J has been great and gone walking with me and Dakota has been loving the walks as well.

I now am battling either a cold or some seasonal allergies, but that at least is masking the nausea!

It's crazy to realize we are a third of the way through this pregnancy already, 6 months seems so far away, yet kind of close.  Here's to hoping the next 6 month go more smoothly that the last 3!
