Currently: January

I had every intention of blogging weekly this month, that didn’t happen 😆 the year started off with a week long Advanced Cardiac Anatomy class at the U through their med school/biomed engineering school. It was so so fascinating to learn more in depth all of things heart related. I get so focused on just the area of the heart that we work to treat that it was a nice change of pace. I have always loved school, so I loved it. The first day was 14 hours and then 10 hour days with labs the rest of the week. I barely saw the kiddos :/ the only thing that made me super nervous was the class had 150 people in it, in person, and was tough to stay socially distanced. The COVID numbers in Minnesota are insane right now, over 11k+ Reported cases daily! We bought tickets to go visit my parents the end of April, I'm really hoping the numbers start going down and everyone can stay healthy.

I’ve been stalling a bit with Weight Watchers. I’m down a little over 10 pounds from the beginning of November, but I have a long ways to go. I had started working out more, even waking up at 4:15am to sneak bike rides on the Peloton in. I had taken a little break from running since I thought I was starting to feel shin splints coming on and then I made it worse by biking. My Achilles started to really hurt a few weeks ago. I’ve never had Achilles pain, so it was definitely new and not sure how to handle it. I troubleshooted and thought it was because the running store sized me up a half size in the shoes always get (not sure why I even went with that… I know better). Thankfully, they swapped them out for the correct size (that’s why I love the small running stores, they stand by their products and services) and it felt a lot better when running. One of my coworkers mentioned in passing that his Achilles had started to hurt from biking to much… lightbulb moment. I had gone from zero biking to 3 45-60 minute hard bike rides a week. I also think my bike isn’t fitted perfectly so my strokes were probably just irritating everything. I’m slowly trying to get back to the treadmill this week. Fingers crossed!

Joel has been busy at work at with Pickleball. He joined a league. He tries to play 3-4 times a week. He signed up for a tournament in February.

We've been fortunate to get to see people this month.  Cassie and Tucker came over for dinner and brought belated Christmas gifts. Hailey got a scooter and she loved it! She even figure out how to ride it after Tucker showed her it one time.  I got an afternoon to hang out with the girls and went dress shopping for Leah's wedding.  We've been able to pop over to Joel's parents house multiple times.  His cousin and aunt and uncle were there once this month - it was great to catch up with them.  I got to have happy hour with Jen on MLK day - Joel had to work but the kids didn't have daycare so I spent the day with them and then got to have some me time with Jen. We tried out the new restaurant in Blaine - their brussel sprouts were delicious.  I was also able to do a happy hour with a couple of coworkers one night after work.  I'm surprised some of these places can afford to stay open - every time I've gone to happy hour after work, it is so empty.

We also had my coworker friend and his wife and their kid over this weekend for brunch and to take pictures of the kiddos.  It was so nice to have people to hang out with and just chat with for a while.  I set up a make shift photo studio in the basement to try to get pictures, some of them turned out pretty well!

Hailey

She has been talking up a storm.  She loves to sing Twinkle Twinkle and Baby Shark.  She has grown out of her 2T clothing, mainly because she is so tall.  She is in Back Float Baby 3 class now, which is similar to the other classes she was taking except they try to get her to put her face under the water by herself more.  Normally she likes it and does well with Joel.  She seems to really like to shower with the handheld shower.  I took her last week and it was not fun.... she had a meltdown the entire time.

COVID has been a little bit of a bummer - we have had to cancel playdates.  Hailey spiked a fever randomly that only lasted a couple of hours.  She tested negative for COVID and her fever was gone so quickly, but we don't want to take any chances.

She has been going to the potty quite a bit at daycare and every once in a while at home.  I feel like it will be time to do some potty training soon.

Miles

Miles is crawling everywhere and getting into everything.  He is an eating machine - he loves solid foods! I'll post more about him in his 8 month update post :)

I got my nails done - dip coat on my natural nails to make them stronger since my nails are so flimsy - I love them!

We got a Nugget for Christmas and Hailey likes to lounge on it
