June Updates

Currently Reading:

  • The Bride Test by Helen Hoang - I’m just about finished with hit, it’s a romcom about a woman from Vietnam to try to get a woman’s son to marry her… it’s okay
  • Just finished We Begin at the End by Chris Whitaker - ooooft, still thinking about this one, it was so good.
  • The Woman They Could Not Silence by Kate Moore - this book is based on letters and journals from a woman in the 1800s who was put into an insane asylum because she started thinking for herself and her husband didn’t like it… it’s slow reading but really interesting
  • Death in the Sunshine by Steph Broadribb - just started this with Kindle Unlimited last night.  It’s about a couple of retired cops that live in a retirement community and a body is found in the pool

Currently Watching: Just started watching White Collar again on Hulu.  I also have been watching a few episodes of Keep Sweet on Netflix about the polygamy of the FLDS.

Currently Feeling: Overwhelmed? Bummed I missed my marathon last weekend to have surgery… I got cleared to start weight bearing as tolerated on my hip and I am definitely overdoing it.  I tried to just go back to normal parenting and helping around the house and my hip was not ready

Hailey

Hailey is spunkier than ever and really becoming a little person.  She is sassy, she is obsessed with watching Masha the Bear and now this other show on Netflix she calls Baby.  She loves to play at playground, play in the water, and play in general… when she’s not asking to watch TV. Some of the things that stand out with her this month have been:
  • We set a timer now for 2 minutes when she needs to go to bed or take a nap.  She has started saying “My have 2 minutes??” Whenever she thinks she is going to have to do something she doesn’t want to do
  • She discovered Joel’s frisbees and calls them her whispbing
  • She loves jumping into the air and landing sitting on bouncy things.. like the couch, recliner, the bouncy house at daycare
  • She goes to bed and our routine is - get her her sippy cup of water, read a story, sing Twinkle Twinkle, then ABCs (sometimes twice), then sing I Love You.  Bring her to the crib, she lays down.. put TWO blankets on her
  • She loves the cake pops from Starbucks - the pink one - and wants it every time we go to Target, however she doesn’t really like sweets
  • She says “like my does” instead of like I do

Miles

Miles gets into EVERYTHING.  He is so stinking cute but so darn hard to keep up with!  You can’t look away for a minute.  Yesterday I was cooking and he pulled one of the bottom drawers out and then climbed up into it..

  • He loves to play peak a boo and will do it using our curtain or blankets
  • He still isn’t walking but he flies along couches or anything, he likes to stand assisted but will not stand by himself - if you try to have him stand, he sucks his legs back up
  • He loves our ball pit downstairs
  • He loves the cats
  • He loves to play Noggin and slam his head into things, including our heads… hard

Life

  • We took the kids to Blaine Fest and a dog show the past weekend, just trying to get outdoors and out of the house - Hailey loved the ice cream and shared it with Miles
  • My parents came to visit!!! They stayed with us for a while. I played pickleball with my dad one morning, the kids loved having them around to play with.  We got to go to dinner as a family for Cassie’s bday
  • Joel had a pickleball tournament - he got first place in the team event and they played really well in the first part of the day for men’s doubles but had a couple tough games the last half of the day
  • We moved desks at work to tiny little temporary desks that are sooooo small
  • I had surgery on my hip to fix my torn labrum
  • Leah’s bridal shower! It was so lovely.
  • I went to happy hour at a brewery in Brooklyn Park with a coworker and his wife and their baby - Hailey came and it was so nice to just hang out
  • We had a coworker and friend over for pizza and a movie, the kids had such a blast with them!
  • Dinner at Joel’s parents house - always incredible
  • Father’s Day!
