Miles Wayne - 1 year old!
How is our baby one?! This year has flown by yet also gone soooo slowly at times. The nights were so long, the days sometimes were too. Going from one to two kids was a huge challenge - everyone told us but it's hard to really comprehend until we are living through it. The older both kids get, the easier it gets in ways but also we find new challenges.
We celebrated Miles' birthday with a cake and dinner at Joel's parents house. Miles did not like his cake! He really didn't like the frosting on his fingers. My parents came the next weekend to spend time with us as well. We are so lucky to have such amazing family!
At Miles' one year appointment, Dr. Lara still was a little concerned about his coloring since his purple on his hands and feet still has not gone away. She also was pushing on his tummy and thought his liver might be a little inflamed so she ordered an ultrasound. At his ultrasound, they found "prominent lymph nodes along the left hepatic border, multiple enlarged lymph nodes in the porta hepatis". Our pediatrician didn't quite know how to interpret this, especially since he has had elevated liver enzyme numbers (ALT and AST) at all of his labs the past year (but never high enough that she had previously seemed concerned). We are waiting on the pediatric hematologist group to review his case and get back to her on next steps. She wants more labs done next week, so fingers crossed we get some answers. (I'm trying not to worry too much... but. yeah, right...note to self: DO NOT GOOGLE ANYMORE..TERRIFYING).
Anyways - Here are the updates for Miles at 12 months!
Likes:
- Miles LOVES the bathtub - he freaks out even when he hears it getting filled. If Hailey is getting a bath and he isn't, he will have a meltdown and try to get into the bathroom or tub and throw a fit if he can't get in
- He loves his bottle when he wakes up in the morning
- Keeping up with his sister, or at least attempting - he also loves anything she has and will attempt to try to take whatever it is she has... Hailey does not approve
- He loves to play peek-a-boo, he will take the curtains or blanket and hide his face and play peek
- He has started to enjoy the little chairs we have in the living room, he likes to climb up on them - he likes to climb up on EVERYTHING, including Hailey's toddler bed and then trying to go from that to the diaper genie. Miles has fallen and cut open his lip to blood multiple times when we just aren't fast enough to catch him... he's such a trooper because he will cry really hard for a few minutes and then be really mad if you don't let him go try climbing again
- He loves to push buttons - the button on the bed jet, the remote, anything he shouldn't have
Dislikes:
- Miles does not like to sit still or be contained. He doesn't really like to cuddle (unless he is trying to nap and wants to sleep on someone, which isn't often). Changing his diaper is SO HARD.. he does not want to sit still or be held down
- Getting his pajamas on at night - sitting still and getting clothes is such a challenge. When we get him off the bottle, it's going to be so tough since that's generally what I use as a distraction to get him to lay still
- Lately, he hates when I leave without him - he SCREAMS like he is in pain
Sleeping:
Naps seem to be going well still. He is working his way down to 1 nap a day. He takes 2 naps a day at home during the weekends that are about 1-1.5 hours each. At daycare he takes 1 nap that is about 1.5 to 2 hours.
We decided to do sleep training again and it seems like it has worked. We tried the Taking Cara Baby plan and got him weaned off his night bottle. Then worked on having him cry and not getting him up before 5. He goes to bed between 6-7pm depending on when he woke up from his nap. He still cries a bit in the middle of the night a few times but it only lasts a minute or two and he falls back asleep.
The next thing we are going to need to work on with him is getting him to sleep longer than 5am.. he barely makes it past that every morning and I would love it if he could sleep in until 6/6:30am like his sister. We had the same thing with Hailey when she was younger and started using the green light with the Hatch when it was okay for her to get up and that really helped. I'm not sure if he's old enough to comprehend yet, but might be worth a shot.
Eating:
Miles has reduced his bottle intake a bit, only drinking 2-4 ounces at a time every 4-6ish. We switched to cow's milk early with the crazy formula shortage going on! He adjusted just fine. He loves his bottle more for comfort than anything. He is doing okay with a sippy cup but really wants his bottle.
He likes to eat food :) He is definitely getting picky though - he doesn't like eggs or bananas. He loves puffs and Fruit Loops. He REALLY likes fruit.
Growth:
Wearing 9-12 and 12-18 month (mostly the 12-18 month clothing since he is so long) and in size 5 diapers. We are still using sposie pads in his diaper at night.

Hailey has started to adjust to Miles and sometimes even shares/plays with him. I wouldn't say she enjoys having him around since he always tries to take his stuff, but she does ask about him and seem to worry about him when he isn't around or if he is hurt.
I am slowly trying to get back to "pre-baby" self (I know this is a weird term since I don't think that will ever truly happen, but I'm not sure a better way to put it). I recently had a set back with a running injury so will not be able to do my marathons this year which is a bummer, but knowing we are done having kids I am trying to give myself grace in getting back to where I want to bed...

He is so cute! I am glad sleep is better! We struggle with the early wake ups, too, but Paul has also been getting up around 5-5:30 even though he doesn't nap anymore. It's brutal!
ReplyDeleteThe liver stuff is scary!! I hope you hear back from the hematologist very soon!
