Miles and Family at 2 weeks

Miles
I had my first bigger break down with Miles trying to go down to a doctor appointment (Thursday morning actually!) to check my blood pressure.  I got a late start because he wanted to marathon nurse, couldn't find the diaper bag, and then when we finally got in the car he scream cried.  I made it about 5 minutes down the road and gave up and went back home.

Miles has been giving us 1-3 hours of stretches of sleep at night and then wakes up hungry. It's been nice to get those 3 hour stretches and definitely challenging when it's only been an hour.  I know it will get better as he gets older... It's weird this time around being the only one that can help him at night.  He also poops basically every feeding and for some reason I remember the breastfeeding poops to not be as smelly as they are - he is definitely a stinky little boy :)

We have been getting lots of snuggles watching the Great British Baking Show and the Women's College World Series.  There have been some amazing games!  I got all of the clothes from Kourtney sorted, we are so thankful for hand me downs, especially since they wear the clothes for such a short period of time!

We are enrolled in the Second Time Mama class through Amma Parenting which starts in a couple of weeks and we also got into the Babies, Babies, Babies ECFE class that starts next week.. I'm excited for the ECFE one since that should be mamma's closer to our house

We had a lactation consultation. Miles is a champ!  He ate over 2 ounces in less than 20 minutes.  His birth weight was 7 pounds 8 ounces.  When we left the hospital, he was down to 6 pounds 15 ounces.  At his 5 day old appointment, he was back up to 7 pounds 2 ounces.  At the appointment (12 days old), he was up to 7 pounds 14 ounces - he had gained 12 ounces in 8 days!

I also made my first big brain fart.. I completely missed his 2 week appointment. I had it in my head that it was on Tuesday even though our calendar and then reminder from Fairview all showed it was Monday. They weren’t able to get us rescheduled for this week so he gets to have his 2 week appointment at 3 weeks.

Hailey
Hailey seems to be getting better about her brother - ignoring him mainly.  She did think it was fun to pull his hair while he was nursing the other day and sometimes forgets to be gentle.  He's going to be a tough little boy.  She also gets a little jealous of his toys.  I brought an activity mat out for him to lay on, and Hailey all of a sudden was super interested in it and had to lay in it and kept trying to pull it out from under Miles.

Hailey is so stinking cute with her Cocomelon school bus that sings "Wheels on the Bus".  She learned the dance to it at daycare and loves to do it.  The round and round part of the song makes it looks like she is boxing someone, it's pretty adorable.

Hailey finished her swimming lessons this weekend at Foss.  It was expensive but so worth it.  We weren't able to get into the Backfloat Baby 2 class for this next session so we will have to do that in the fall.

Dan and Sheri (and Katie and Leah) have stopped by to help out quite a bit this week - taking Hailey to the park or holding Miles so I can nap.  It's been incredibly helpful!  Yesterday, one of the kids from Hailey's Amma class came over for a play date.  It was so nice to see her parents and chat with them, it felt so normal.  The girls didn't really play together, but they both had fun playing with all the toys in our toy box.

One of my favore things that Hailey is doing this week is saying "poop".  She points to her butt and says it.  Sometimes she's right, sometimes she's not.  She also will say it to me and Joel randomly too, which makes me chuckle.

Life
Besides the scare of the hemorrhaging, things have been a lot calmer at the house.  Dakota is still hanging out at Tucker and Cassie's, which is so nice - especially with the heat.  My parents left so the house is quiet - we definitely miss their help!  We have had lots of help from Joel's family, which has been so amazing.  Joel got a tummy bug the day after my parents left, but he's finally starting to feel a little better.

I was able to sneak in a 15 minute Peloton ride this week just to get my legs going and my heart rate up.  I'm super bummed at how hot it's been and is going to be (in the 90s!) so can't really go outside and take Miles for walks like I did with Hailey during her maternity leave that happened in the fall.  I was suprised at how good the bike felt considering how much my body has been through the last couple of weeks. I would love to get a few more rides in this week pending baby boy napping.

  1. Wow Miles is gaining super well! That is such a huge relief! It is hard to be the sole source of food, though. I EP'd for Paul so was used to sharing more of the load w/ Phil. But I think overall, I much prefer BF'ing since it's way faster than pumping and we aren't cleaning tons of bottles and pump stuff every day. That was always Phil's job but it resulted in a lot of clutter in our kitchen!

Paul is similar to Hailey and very interested in Will's toys. He will also lay on the activity mat and would take Will's pacifier occcasionally when we were still using it (he doesn't use one anymore). Paul also took some toys Will got as gifts and considers them HIS. I figured it's not worth the battle so just let him have them - like one is a little elephant w/ that crackly paper on parts of the body. Paul insists on sleeping w/ it so I just let him since Will is too young to care. But ay yi yi it can be challenging when Paul gets really jealous.

I hope the temps cool down soon so you can enjoy some walks outdoors. I hate this heat. I'm trying not to complain but it's awful! I went on so many walks w/ Will this winter since we had a mild winter. But overall, I preferred the weather for my mat leave w/ Paul as he was born in March and I went back to work in July.
