Sunday Ramblings
Ooft, it’s been hot. I tried to get out walking with Miles a few times this week and even after 7/8am it was so gross. Thankfully we have good air conditioning and I’m too tired and Miles feeds too often for me to want to go out anywhere.
I did have my follow up post op surgery and things looked good! I’m completely cleared for getting back to activities. I did a few Peloton workouts but it’s almost impossible to sneak them in on the weekends with both kids - I know I should give myself grace but I don’t love the way my body looks…) I’ve also been exhausted, Miles has been on an eating schedule of every 1.5-2.5 hours. The unfortunate thing is that’s from start of feed to start of feed, so by the time I finish feeding him, there’s not much time before he eats again. Everything I’ve read, this can be normal for breastfed babies. I went in for another lactation appointment and he’s definitely gaining - he’s up about a pound from his birth weight already! He also took in a little over 3 ounces for the weighted feed. So he is capable of transferring milk just fine. We went to Anne (Joel’s dad’s cousin’s wife) - she fixed my latch a bit so that was also helpful! But my goodness, I would love a little longer stretch at night if sleeping. There were a couple of nights that I had to wake Miles up for his feeding (since our Pediatrician said to feed every 3 hours…. And I forgot to go to our 2 week appointment so I never go the go ahead to let him go longer….) but the last few nights have been clockwork - 2 hours between feeds and then an hour and a half between feeds in the morning. I’m hoping it’s a growth spurt and he will go longer soon.
We continue to feel incredibly blessed by our friends and family. Tucker and Cassie came to visit and bought us lunch and then Tucker drove all the way to Maple Grove to get us Crumbl cookie (note to self: Joel loved the red velvet, I thought it was just okay, I loved the peanut butter - we really want the confetti cake or cake batter one to come back! The yummy frosting on top is heavenly). Cassie held Miles for hours so I could just get a break from being needed and it was so nice. Tucker and Joel went out and played with the hoverboard and kept Hailey entertained as well. We also had my coworker and his awesome wife stop by to say hi Friday night - she held Miles to give me a break and they brought over cute clothes for him, including a swimsuit - it was so nice! Joel’s parents and Katie are coming over this evening and bringing dinner. We are so lucky to have all the support we do - raising kids is so hard.
I started making Miles’ first year book and our 2021 book - it’s fun to look back at how much Hailey has grown even this year! I also ended up scrolling through Hailey’s newborn photos - and ended up in tears. Although the newborn stage is not my favorite, looking back at how small Hailey was plus these postpartum hormones really got me crying :)
I will say, I will gladly take this phase over being pregnant! And as hard as it feels in the moment, I know it gets better thanks to this being the second time around - it helps get through those late night feedings. And as hard as it all is, I would do it all again for our perfect little family.
Here’s to hopefully longer stretches of sleep and time between feedings and less toddler temper tantrums this week!
