September Updates

Life

It’s been a busy month. We had lots of family time this month!  Joel’s family visited and my mom came up to visit for a while as well.  Joel’s grandma, Jeff and Nancy, Amy, Russ and Toby all came to visit this month.  We spent multiple nights over there for hanging out for dinner.  Jeff came over to help hang up blinds in the kids’ rooms and Russ came over to do a workout with Joel.  It was so nice to see everyone!

My mom came up for a wedding in Sioux Falls and then stayed with us for a little over a week and a half. Hailey and Miles loved their grandma snuggles! It was sad the day she left, Hailey came home and was wandering around and sadly saying “Amma go??” With her hands in the wondering gesture.

This month, I installed a new faucet in the kitchen - our old one lost water pressure and it seemed just as easy to swap out to a new one than to change the cartridge.  I ran into a few roadblocks, but we were only without the kitchen sink for one evening!

Joel played in a pickleball tournament - we came down to watch.  Trying to park, I cracked the bumper on the Prius, big bummer.  It was so cold to watch that day!! (Of course, since it’s Minnesota, it was back to being in the 80s just days later).  Joel and his partner took 4th, which I think is better than either of them anticipated.

We also went to a Gophers football game.  What a cool environment!  We had good seats thanks to Liz and Matt.  Hailey loved the marching band and Miles slept through part of it.

Work has been busy.  I got a slightly different role now that I’m back from maternity leave.  I get to do more of the project level work instead of just a few work streams.  I really enjoy my team and the project I’m on!

I was able to catch up with a Medtronic coworker/SWE friend for coffee and had drinks a couple nights with MOTR. Trying to take advantage of the nice weather!

Five favorite moments this month:
  1. Watching Joel play in his pickelball tournament and hearing Hailey yell Daddy while he was playing
  2. Watching Miles learn to roll and just being so smiley!
  3. Celebrating Hailey's birthday with family
  4. Getting to see Joel's family
  5. Getting to see mom
Workouts

Hailey

Hailey got to celebrate her birthday with Joel's family and then with Tucker and Cassie.  She got some really fun stuff - a cocomelon house, a stick to "walk" a duck.

She has started gymnastics with her best friend Josie and is back in swimming lessons.

She ended up getting pink eye this month and having to stay home from daycare. Thankfully no one else has gotten it.

Some of the cutest things she is doing/has said this month:
  • She loves her slide "My lide!"
  • She says Miles "My-nun"
  • She now likes to flip onto her tummy in the bath tub and kick
  • She will aggressively point and say "seat!" if she wants you to sit next to her
  • She really likes her potty sometimes and will sit on it for a long time, you can ask her if she wants her diaper back on and she will plop onto the seat and say "no, potty!"
  • She didn't want to nap one weekend (real shocker...) so I decided to bring her into our bed just to snuggle.  As she was cuddling, I closed my eyes to doze and then opened them a few minutes later and her eyeballs were maybe an inch away from mine, saw that I was looking at her, smiled, rubbed my nose with her nose, and then licked my nose
  • She is singing baby shark, and it's the cutest "ma ma do do do do"
  • She has started to sing along to her JJ toy "bed, yes yes, bed, oooo!"

Miles

I covered so much with Miles in his monthly recap so this might be a little light.  A few things from this month are that he is still sleeping like crap, but now doing it in his crib in his own room.  He had his four month appointment.  He got to go hiking with Joel at Taylor's Falls. He's found his hands, has started rolling like crazy, likes to sleep on his belly.  He loves to watch Hailey and he got to take his first bath with her!  He is seriously the smiliest baby.  The only time he's really upset is when he's hungry - and then he's hungry right then and very angry - or a little tired.  Even when he's tired, he will try to tough it out and smile at you.
