Five Things Friday

1. The big thing this week is moving Hailey to her toddler bed.  She has been refusing naps and bedtimes and throwing a bit of tantrum.  The last week or so, she had just been putting on leg over her crib rail and then pulling it right back.  The other night, she got her body up there and looked like she was going to fall to injury - so we had to make the switch.  Unfortunately, it was not an easy transition for her.  The first night in it, Joel had to lay on the floor next to her bed.  The second night, I let her cry it out for a bit but she would just run and scream at the door.  The screaming lasted over an hour when I finally went in and sat next to her for about half hour before she finally fell asleep.  I sadly missed a happy hour with some First Time Mama gals because of the awful bedtime.  The third night in the bed (last night) Joel had to sit in there for over half hour with her.  Based on some articles I read and talking to other mamas, it seems like it's okay to sit with them for a bit, especially during the transition period.  The bummer part of it is that she also keeps waking up earlier and earlier and then coming to the door screaming.  This morning she was up at 5:30 crying at her door.
Hailey's toddler bed put together! She helped me rearrange the room again to put the bed in the other corner to align with where her crib had been and to get her away from the window and the air register.

She enjoys hanging out in the bed! Just not sleeping...

2. Miles sleep has been getting better-ish.  We've been working on stretching his first stretch to try to 'train' him to not need to eat every couple of hours.  This consists of rolling over and putting the pacifier back in his mouth and patting him to calm him back down.  I think the Snoo is incredibly helpful in this (so it might be a rough week while we are travelling at the end of the month without it!) because he seems to ease back into sleep pretty well.  We've made it close to 7 hours a couple of times this week! Sadly, we don't get that much sleep but I've been falling back asleep between his wakings pretty well.  I do think he probably would even be able to be stretched even longer than the 7 hours, but we put him to bed fairly early for a newborn (supposedly bedtime for newborns is naturally around 10:30 pm) so it's almost easier to just feed him when he's getting a lot fussier around the 2:30/3:00am waking.  He doesn't sleep super long on his second stretch afterwards, but the second stretch now is still longer than his longest stretch a few weeks ago!
It's definitely different than Hailey because she would SCREAM when she was up, she did not let you question whether she was really ready to get up or not.  She also took a lot longer to get back to sleep.

3. One of the moms in my Second Time Mama class mentioned a workout program through Street Parking for postpartum.  I bit the bullet and signed up.  So far I've done a workout in their Shift program with the mama modifications and am working through their Core Rehab program.  It's only been a few days of it and so far I like it!  I definitely was sore from the Shirt program that consisted of air squats and lunges and other movements I haven't done in a long time. Majority of it was bodyweight, but I have a lot of extra of that right now - so I am definitely feeling it! I had to do a walk instead of run last night because my legs were just a little too sore. I am looking forward to getting to do Peloton workouts a bit more but it's tough since Miles isn't napping consistently so I can't really plan them out as much and just never know how long I will have.  Miles can run and sit while I do lifts and stuff and if he fusses I can attend to him, it's not as easy on the bike.

4. RSV has hit our daycare.  We knew this would probably happen based on the hospital visit and them being full of kids with respiratory viruses.  It makes us super nervous knowing that Miles just recovered from one.  RSV isn't usually too bad for kids over 6 months old and generally presents as a cold with a runny nose, cough, etc.  The exact symptoms Hailey started showing yesterday.  We are doing a lot of hand washing and trying our best to keep Hailey away from Miles - but it's a balancing game because we also don't want to make Hailey feel bad about herself because she doesn't understand why we are freaking out so much. I'm trying to give her as many cuddles as I can when Joel is able to hang out with Miles.
Hailey enjoying outside time at daycare - she has gotten really good at saying the word 'bubble'

She definitely has plenty of energy for being sort of sick!

5. Miles is starting to smile and coo even more this week! It's so nice to get that interaction back from him instead of just the mean mugging.  He's been such a chill kid since we switched to formula.  He generally only cries when he's hungry or has a little tummy ache.  He's been spitting up a bit more this week so hopefully we can figure that out, but it doesn't seem to bother him much. He's also much more alert between his naps and feedings so it's fun to be able to see his personality starting to come out - I'm looking forward to when he can interact even more!
