Fourth of July Long weekend

Holiday weekends are way different with kids - they're definitely not the relaxing 3 day weekends you look forward to before kids.

Red White & Blue for daycare

SATURDAY.

We started the day a little rocky - Hailey has had a non stop ear infection that we have had amoxicillin for and then augmentin since it’s so stubborn. I was trying to air out her diaper rash that she has that is so bad from the tummy issues the meds have given her.  I failed to get a diaper back on her on time so we started the morning cleaning poop out of the carpet.  I felt so bad for her, she couldn’t even sit in the bath or walk because her bum hurt so badly. She would cry the second we would try to change he diaper and yell owie!

Joel’s parents came over to watch the kids so Joel and I could go do adult things. Joel went and played racquetball with a friend. He said it was way different than pickleball and he was definitely a little rusty. He also got beamed in the bum. I was able to grab coffee with the MOTR ladies at Caribou. It was so nice to be able to have adult conversation - I looked at the clock and it was 2 hours later and it felt like no time at all! Hailey and grandma played in the sand box almost the whole time we were gone.

Joel, Hailey and Miles all took really good naps. We went and visited Leah's new house and walked around their neighborhood.  Joel and Hailey hung out in the sandbox a bit. It was quite warm out, though, so we spent a lot of the day inside.

Miles gave us an almost smile! It was the best! Even though it was probably just gas.

SUNDAY.

We went to Perkins successfully as a family of four and didn't have any melt downs.  Hailey was pretty well behaved and Miles slept through all of it.  We went to the park after breakfast and Hailey played for a bit and then we went to Target to get a few groceries.

After Hailey's nap, Joel took Hailey to the park but it was so hot they didn’t last very long. When they got back, Tucker and Cassie got to our house and we went and got food at Invictus.  Hailey was amazing sitting on Cassie’s lap! She didn’t fuss at all and didn’t even need the phone to watch her show even once!

Unfortunately we had an awful night. We think the fireworks woke Hailey up because she was screaming so loud around 10:30 - our neighbors 2 doors down that moved into the house that just sold (I think it’s a rental now) we’re shopping fireworks  from the median until almost midnight… she would not go back to bed. I went in there for a while and couldn’t get her to calm down, Joel went in there and finally got her to sleep. But she woke up screaming another time and then woke up again at 3 and wasn’t able to go back down. Joel went in there and tried rocking her and giving her milk… I tried going in there and rocking her and patting her back. We took the crib mattress out so I could lay next to her, I brought her into our room to snuggle a little. She calmed down so I tried bringing her back to her room - and screammminng. I put her in her crib and just left her to sort it out and she screamed and cried for a little bit and finally laid back down and fell asleep around 4. Miles woke up for the second time half hour after that… and then he woke up after that to get some food and then woke up for the day at 6.

MONDAY.

What a busy day! Joel went and played pickleball at 7am, which was rough after an awful night. He then flew home and grabbed Hailey and took her to the park and to hang out with a friend and his kids. His friend has kids that are similar age gap, but older, as Hailey and Miles - he said the first 6 months are definitely hard. They hung out at the park and waded in the lake water until Hailey’s nap time.  Hailey saw the little fish in the lake and was saying “pish!”

I had my 6 week postpartum appointment so Joel’s mom watched Miles so I could go down alone. Everything was back to normal - whatever normal means anymore.

We all got home and tried to put Hailey down for a nap.. and it was an absolute failure. She SCREAMED nonstop from 12:30 til 2. Wouldn’t let us try to help her or rock her or anything. She stood in her dark room and just screamed. And screamed. Finally we decided to put her in the car and hope she would nap on the way to the First Time Mama Amma meet up at the Wabun splash pad. We got the car packed up but Joel had to bail at the last minute - all the heat and lack of sleep had gotten to him and he was feeling awful. I made it almost to the park in Joel’s car when I needed to get gas, the light was on and we were on fumes. My purse was in my car though so I had to attempt to use Apple Pay. Of course it didn’t work. Thankfully there was a very nice guy that used his credit card and I Venmoed him.

Hailey had an absolute blast at the splash pad! She LOVED the water. It was so dang nice to catch up with everyone that was able to come and see how big all the kids are getting! It was nice to have the extra hands too so I could watch Hailey in the water and Miles passed out on a blanket in the shade. It was SO HOT.

I set him on the blanket to change him and he passed out, so he became a trip hazard :)

She passed out!

We had a rough bedtime with Hailey, but she eventually stopped yelling and slept through the night. I was so nervous it was going to be another awful evening… I hope this is just a phase.

TUESDAY. (not really a weekend - but it's been a great day so thought I would write about it to remember :) )

It was such a good day today. It was nice to get Hailey back to daycare and her routine - she took a 2 hour nap!

Miles and I went to Hans Bakery to pick up donuts. We stopped by work and dropped some off with coworkers and chatted for a few minutes, it was so nice to see them! We then swung by and got coffee and and went to a friend’s house to deliver coffee and donuts. She had a rough weekend, so thought it would be a nice pick me up, it was lovely to see her and chat for a little bit. Miles did tummy time on their awesome carpet.

We then headed down to Wooden Hill Brewery with my Second Time Mama group. What an awesome group! And we didn’t have to leave this lunch via ambulance, so that was a win! It’s so nice to chat with people who are going through the same challenging season.

  1. Hailey's ear infection/diaper rash issues sound like what Paul went through from 5-9 months when he got tubes. Hopefully you'll get an ENT referral soon? He had to have a certain # of infections before they would do tubes, and his hearing was impacted, too. It's not fun to have that procedure done, but it was so worth it as then you treat future infections with ear drops. The oral antibiotics were so hard on Paul's stomach!

I went to Wooden Hill w/ my first time AMMA group last month. It was so fun to see them in person!

I hope this tough stretch w/ Hailey's sleep is behind you soon. It's hard to deal with that on top of the baby's sleep. I feel like Paul went through a tough stretch last summer. Phil dealt with the wake ups though as I slept in the basement bedroom since it was cooler down there and I needed more room for my body pillow. But he was fine handling all those wake ups because he knew that I would be sleeping terribly when the baby came...
